The Importance of Smart Socialization

Socialization in dogs means introducing them to all the different sights, sounds, smells and sensations in our human-centric society. It is not just having your dog meet all different kinds of people and other dogs. It is also acclimating them to being touched and handled by humans of all ages and descriptions and introducing them to everyday items we take for granted, such as, umbrellas, bicycles, sunglasses, trash trucks, shiny floors, vacuum cleaners, balloons and anything else they may encounter in their lifetime. These introductions should be positive experiences and are most effective during the critical socialization period of a puppy prior to the age of three to four months.
