Children who prepared before bringing their pup home are happy.

Housewarming

Start off on the right paw!

This is part of our “better to be proactive than reactive” approach. Bringing a dog of any age into your home is a big decision and comes with a lot of responsibility.

Do your research and consider what your dog needs and how that will fit into your current lifestyle, rather than altering your lifestyle to suit the dog.

Education, preparedness and understanding are key to keeping our pets out of shelters and having happy fur-ever homes.

This service includes:

  • Discuss if everyone in the household is on board and ready to take responsibility for the care and consistent training of the dog

  • Consultation of type/breed and age of dog to best suit your family’s composition, energy level and lifestyle

  • Finding your new companion

  • Choosing an individual dog:  What to look for in your new dog whether it be from a breeder or rescue

  • Bringing your new pup home. We will go over how best to transport your dog and how to introduce it to your yard, home, household members and the people, places and things around you.

  • First nights with your new pup

  • Socialization (handout included)

  • Leadership and Listening Skills: How to begin communicating with your new pup on day one and effectively set boundaries and establish house rules from the start (handout included)

  • Become familiar with House Training: potty training, crate training and alone-time training (handout included)

  • Introducing your pup to riding comfortably and politely in a vehicle and preventing motion sickness (handout included)
